Vinterio Bookshop

Library / 2009

"Vessels of Information"

A bookshelf that recalls a "contemporary forest" with its design, expressing the concept of naturalness and sustainability; key topics of the event Surfacin' - Material Innovation where the shelves were first exhibited to the public.

The variety of woods selected for the bookshelf exhibit the broad range of finishes available from Vinterio as well as recalling the diversity of such a natural material. The structure and composition of the woods was intentional in evoking a tree's natural lifecycle; with darker shades at the base of the library, shifting towards lighter "new growth" at the top.
Further analogy between bookshelf and tree is evident in the multi-layered and faceted design; resembling a plant's vessels drawing water from the soil, the shelves develop a progression from floor to ceiling absorbing information from the books on display.

In collaboration with Luca Fois and Vinterio for the event Surfacin' during Zona Tortona 2009.

Rocking Chaise / 2004

"Kinetic Seating"

Interlocking plywood fins and slats, pegged and glued under tension, create this dynamic form; providing unique support and motion during relaxation.

12-Bit

Puzzle Chair / 2004

"Elaboration of the stacking chair."

The simplest of forms to pack and stack, the cube has a regular, uniform, three-dimensional shape that can be arranged in a systematised pattern.

Using this as inspiration, the 'Puzzle Chair' consists of 12 pieces that can be assembled to make a Chair and re-assembled to create a Cube; devolving the chairs form yet evolving the stack-ability beyond ordinary expectations. A fun yet testing, sculptural rather than functional piece of furniture.

Material: Plywood box construction, available in 3 finishes; Natural fruit wood veneer, Monochrome stain and Coloured lacquer.
